![]() On the right is an Alpha (local company in the Phila Area or a computer show vendor) Pentium I. On the left is the screen output from the computer. You might be able to pick out the specs. Windows 95 OS. (Ignore the AT&T 6300 in the middle)
The computer's file dates and software range from February 1996 through to the end of 1996 and then mysteriously this computer was never apparently used again. Beautiful shape, a total time capsule from 1996. Rare Pentium 60 (I believe) that would have been the best "generic PC show" processor available in early 1996. I had just 4 months earlier also bought a Pentium 60 for myself. Pentium was total cutting edge then and I remember the purchase broke my bank account. PC shows were still popular in the mid 90s, which is how people like me used to buy PCs before the Internet eCommerce. Vendors would set up a workspace, put up a few deals, and take orders on the spot. We would have the PC built while we waited. I remember walking around the shows to check out vendors and periodically check back to see if the machine I ordered was ready. In late 1995 / early 1996 people were mostly buying 486 boxes. The Pentium 75 was generally not available until the Spring of 1996. Reply |
